Hackberry's identity is separate from the popular People's Food Coop Deli because we intend to offer guests an elegant and relaxing dining experience. We offer full tableside service for lunch and dinner and for our weekend brunches. Please remember to give your server your Co-op member number so that your Hackberry's purchases may be recorded.
Hackberry's showcases a seasonal dinner menu, which incorporates the freshest flavors and ingredients that highlight each season. The dinner menu changes at least two times per year. All of the salads are made with organic baby greens.
Hackberry's features a variety of beverages, ranging from coffee, fair trade organic espresso drinks, tea, and soymilk to fine wines, beers and after-dinner drinks.
Throughout the year, we offer a variety of special events including wine tastings; Friday Brunch; special Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, and Oktoberfest menus (to name just a few); and live music during dinner hours.
The concept behind the name we choose for our restaurant is really quite simple. Our dining area overlooks Fifth Avenue and the tree-lined Cameron Park. The view of Cameron Park is cherished by the members we gathered for a focus group to help us shape the identity of the restaurant. In particular, focus group members kept mentioning the hackberry trees in the park. The hackberry tree is related to elm trees.
It is a forgiving urban tree and is considered tolerant of most soil and moisture conditions. It also grows very fast and tall (in good conditions and soil) and it works perfectly with cities' architecture without interfering. These trees can live 20 to 40 years. Hackberry trees are typical of the Midwest and Northeast regions of United States.
Our restaurant staff is headed by Richard Klindworth, our executive chef, and Sue Jeffers, who manages the front of the house.
